Community Prevention
Communities are an extension of the home and the
school. Communities can therefore support and reinforce
anti-drug messages given at schools and other forum.
Who is at risk?
All persons within the community are
potentially at risk of drug abuse, but the following
categories of persons are more so:
- School dropouts
- Abandoned and unsupervised children
- The unemployed/underemployed
- The homeless
Aim
The community prevention programme is aimed
at equipping community-based organizations to
participate actively in the fight against drugs. This
is done through:
- Mobilizing and empowering community action
groups to undertake demand reduction and prevention
activities aimed at reducing the use of illicit
drugs and the misuse and abuse of licit
substances
- Mounting education campaigns geared toward
encouraging healthy lifestyles.
Current
The programme presently supports and
facilitates community initiatives, which are geared
towards prevention and/or reduction of drug
consumption.
Future Initiatives
NADAPP proposes to:
- Introduce Street-Based
Projects/Drop-in-Centres, and Peer Leadership
Projects for the national community.
- Expand and intensify existing programmes.
