Association of Substance Abuse Organizations Workshops (ASAPO)
This recently concluded Training the Trainer workshop was conducted at the NADAPP's Secretariat in May 2003.The workshop targeted caregivers who worked in the areas of treatment and rehabilitation. It aimed to help them develop a clearer understanding of the issues surrounding HIV and the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Further, it sought to enable them to make informed decisions with respect to their clients, particularly females. Its objectives were to:
- train leaders of the existing treatment, rehabilitation and prevention centres and develop their intervention skills to deal with clients dually diagnosed HIV and abuse of alcohol and /or other drugs (AOD).
- establish a cadre of trainers in the treatment and rehabilitation system who will, train other caregivers, thereby enhancing the capacity of the system to better manage treatment for HIV and AOD.
- improve case-management especially for female addicts who are HIV positive.
