Tobacco
Description
Nicotine, is a highly addictive agent found in
tobacco.
Harmful Effects
- Some of the health consequences caused by using
tobacco are heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, oral
cancers and other diseases. These diseases are caused by
the burning of nicotine, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons
when cigarettes are smoked. Carbon monoxide binds red
blood cells, and impairs the delivery of oxygen to
tissues whenever cigarettes are smoked.
- The smoke from tobacco contains nicotine, tar and
carbon monoxide.
- Tar present in burned tobacco contributes to grave
health problems, such as the growth of cancers and
bronchial disorders. It also turns teeth yellow, causes
skin to wrinkle, and gives the smoker foul breath.
